Associate Attorney
We are seeking an Associate Attorney with a minimum of 3–5 years of litigation experience to join our team. This role is ideal for an attorney who is comfortable in the courtroom and equally confident diving into regulatory research and compliance work for clients in the beverage alcohol and hospitality space.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle litigation matters across a range of proceedings, including drafting demand letters, managing discovery and negotiating resolutions and settlements (approximately 20–40% of the role)
- Conduct legal and regulatory research and analysis; prepare memoranda, briefs and client advisories
- Advise clients on local and state licensing, regulatory compliance and license applications
- Support transactional matters including business acquisitions, asset and stock purchases and disposition of businesses from letters of intent through closing
- Draft and negotiate agreements related to beverage distribution, food service, sponsorships, escrow, indemnification, assignments and releases
- Assist with corporate guidance and business structuring for hospitality and beverage alcohol clients
- Appear before regulatory agencies and governmental bodies; maintain professional communications with clients, opposing counsel and governmental offices
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active Illinois bar admission
- Minimum 3–5 years of litigation experience
- Strong legal writing and analytical skills
- Experience in regulatory, administrative or beverage alcohol/hospitality law is a strong plus but not required
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail
- High level of discretion and professionalism
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal billing/timekeeping systems
- Comfort with and curiosity about AI tools and their application in legal workflows
- Must be available to work in-person at our Chicago office
